Whispering Pines is part of a much broader community of campgrounds owned and operated by Community of Christ. It was purchased in 1967 and has been hosting camps for church groups, schools, non-profits and other organizations ever since.

Prior to that, Whispering Pines was privately owned for 30+ years, and before that it was known as Black Horse Mine, where gold was mined!

  • Elevation Range: 6,450 - 6,890 feet

  • Terrain: Mountainous

  • Weather: the July average high is 89 degrees and the January average low is 21 degrees

  • Approximately 275 days of sunshine

  • 23 inches of rain and 34 inches of snow annually

  • Plants: Ponderosa Pine, Alligator Juniper, Oak, and colorful wildflowers

  • Wildlife: lizards, snakes, deer, javelina, gray squirrel, mountain lion, bobcat, porcupine, skunk, coyotes, fox, rabbit, and even black bear among other mammals

  • Birds: Wild Turkey, Acorn Woodpecker, Steller's Jay, Mountain Chickadee, Nuthatch, Western Bluebird, and Hummingbird
